Ritchie-Ernst Executive Cabinet Announced

The official Ritchie-Ernst cabinet has been announced today, all eight positions were filled through intensive interviews last week. The cabinet will grow in size as class presidents are elected in the fall, and SGA Treasurer Madeline Shoemaker take office. President Ritchie said,

I was really excited about the overall quality of all the applicants. Tough decisions were made in the selection process but the decisions were tough because of the importance of the Executive Cabinet to the success of the student body throughout 2007 and 2008. I can’t think of a more passionate and well equipped group of students that are ready to start working on the issues that are important to the student body.

Dear Charlotte 49er Community,
I am excited to serve as your Student Body President during such an important and transitional time in UNC Charlotte’s history. During 2007 and 2008 Niner Nation will have the opportunity to work together as we see the release of the long-term Housing Committee’s study, the construction of a new entrance, the release of the Football Committee’s study and the planning for use of the Student Union. Along with these projects and many others we will see an increase in the value of the Charlotte 49er experience for every student and an increased pride that every alumni can have in their degree.

My sincerest thanks goes out to the many supporters and friends that have entrusted Tim and I with representing the student population. We will take pride in the diversity and unique capacity of the Student Body at UNC Charlotte as we work on the issues that are already present and as new challenges become apparent. I ask that we are held to our platform goals and our campaign promises throughout our term. Frequent updates on our progress will be provided through the SGA website, an upcoming blog and a podcast.

During the first few days in office, Tim and I will be holding interviews for our Executive Cabinet. Prospective cabinet members can find information on the application process at http://www.ritchieernst.com. The appointments for the Executive Cabinet will be among the toughest decisions that we have to make because of the limited number of positions and the high quality of those that apply.

After the Executive Cabinet decisions are made, we will plan for recruiting new members at SOAR and begin working on our many initiatives. Some of our summer plans include the creation of an information pack on 49er Merchandise which we can present to local store managers with the goal of encouraging more 49er gear in local stores.

I sat down (through AIM) with Marc Asbill, the creator of UNC Charlotte – The Real Lowdown to talk about my campaign and some of my goals for UNC Charlotte’s SGA over the next year. Below is a small excerpt, but be sure to visit his blog to read the whole thing,

I saw the campaign videos prepared for Justin Ritchie and Tim Ernst’s campaign, and I have to say I was very impressed not only with the videos themselves, but the forethought that goes into deciding to go to that depth when campaigning for student office. I decided to look into the two a little bit more, and I sat down and had a chat with Justin Ritchie just to see what he was all about. I must say, like his videos, I was very impressed with the man himself.

Justin possesses all the credentials that one would expect in a top tier candidate. He is graduating next year with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics, he has been a member of SGA since the very first year he was at UNC Charlotte, he has ties to the UNC Charlotte loyal, and he has a strong passion to make the school a better place when he leaves office than the day he is inaugurated.

Campaign manager Marcus Hesse officially released the runoff publicity for the upcoming week. Marcus was quoted as saying, “The publicity is red which emphasizes the importance of the election, and it grabs the eye.” Download the Handout and the Flyers to help spread them around campus!

Thanks to the Ritchie-Ernst voter base that made the Ritchie-Ernst campaign #1 @ UNC Charlotte. Now it’s time to buckle down and prepare for round two. Ritchie-Ernst vs Lawing-Atkinson. As usual, watch the campaign site for updates and get ready to vote April 18th and 19th, next Wednesday and Thursday, for Justin Ritchie and Tim Ernst.
